The Housing Partnership Development Corporation, one of the nation’s largest producers of affordable housing, is sponsoring an innovative, free public home maintenance training and repair program for low and moderate income homeowners in southeast Queens.
Offered in partnership with Margert Community Corporation, the program was developed to assist first time homebuyers with the after-purchase maintenance of their home investment.
Due to the devestation caused by Super Storm Sandy, Margert's Home Maintenance program classes have been postponed until further notice.
Our home maintenance training and repair workshops are usually held on consecutive Wednesday evenings, between the hours of 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm. These workshops are truly "hands on."
Who can teach do-it-yourself home improvement and repair skills?
Each person will replace and repair drywall, install electrical switches, receptacles, dimmers and ceilings fans; install ceramic tile on walls, floors and ceilings; securely hang light to heavy objects on walls; install decorative moldings; repair/replace toilets, sinks and faucets, unclog drains, andinstall burst-proof washing machine water lines; paint walls, ceilings and moldings; and make your home more energy efficient.
You will use all the tools and materials needed to complete each job. Tools and materials, including textbook, are provided courtesy of Margert and the HPDC.
This is a beginners course to learn the basics. All are welcome.
